Its 250 A continuous rating (at 40 °C) and 4-pole construction make it a main or feeder breaker for 3-phase + neutral systems up to 800 V insulation class.
This breaker carries a 187 kA interrupting rating at 240 V AC, dropping to 121 kA at 415/440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 4.5 kA at 690 V. At 415 V (common European industrial voltage), the 121 kA rating still covers most high-fault installations.
Thermal derating — the real-world current you can run
Rated 250 A continuous at up to 50 °C ambient. Above that, the breaker derates linearly: 241 A at 55 °C, 232 A at 60 °C, 222 A at 65 °C, and 213 A at 70 °C. If your panel internal ambient hits 60 °C (common in a tightly packed enclosure with solar or drive heat), you lose 18 A of headroom. Plan your load at the derated figure, not the nameplate 250 A.
The 140 mm width for a 4-pole frame is standard for this class — it occupies the same footprint as other 3VA2 frame breakers, so a panel laid out for a 3VA2 250 A frame accepts this unit without re-drilling the mounting plate. Maximum power dissipation is 48 W at rated load; factor that into your enclosure thermal calculation.
What is not on this breaker
It is a straight line-protection breaker with the ETU350 trip unit. If you need ground-fault alarm or shunt trip, you need a different suffix on the 3VA2 order code.
