What this MCCB carries — and where it holds takt time
The Siemens 3VA2225-5JP32-0AA0 is a SENTRON 3VA2 molded case circuit breaker rated for 250 A continuous current across a 3-pole configuration, fitted with the ETU550 electronic trip unit. It is designed for line protection — the primary feeder or large-distribution branch in a 480 V or 600 V class panel. The 187 kA interrupting rating at 240 VAC and 121 kA at 415/440 VAC give it the headroom to clear high-fault conditions without upstream coordination issues, which keeps a weld line or conveyor string from cascading into a plant-wide blackout when a downstream fault occurs.
Thermal derating and real-world current capacity
The breaker holds its full 250 A rating up to 50 °C ambient. Above that, the ETU550 derates linearly: 238 A at 55 °C, 225 A at 60 °C, 213 A at 65 °C, and 200 A at 70 °C. If this MCCB sits in a non-ventilated enclosure near other heat sources — common in a packed automotive panel — the 55 °C column is the realistic planning number. The IP40 front protection means the breaker face is splash-protected but the enclosure itself must handle the rest of the environmental sealing.
Dimensions and panel fit
The breaker measures 105 mm wide, 181 mm tall, and 86 mm deep. That 105 mm width is the standard 3-pole MCCB footprint for the 3VA2 frame size — it occupies three 35 mm DIN-module positions. The 86 mm depth includes the arc-chamber housing; verify clearance to the gland plate or enclosure door if rear-access bus bars are used.
Communication and trip-unit capability
The ETU550 is an electronic trip unit with communication function — it supports the SENTRON 3VA2 communication module for power monitoring and remote trip indication over PROFIBUS or PROFINET (module ordered separately). The breaker does not include an undervoltage release or shunt trip as standard; those are add-on accessories. The insulation voltage rating of 800 V means it is suitable for 690 VAC systems where the 4.5 kA interrupting rating at 690 V applies — that is a niche application, but the breaker is rated for it.
