The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2225-5JQ32-0AD0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for line protection, with a continuous current of 250 A at 40 °C and a maximum interrupting capacity of 187 kA at 240 V. That interrupting rating drops to 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, then to 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 4.5 kA at 690 V — so at higher line voltages the fault-current capability falls off sharply; size the breaker for the available fault current at the actual system voltage. The unit includes a communication function and carries three auxiliary switches (HQ type).
Thermal derating and panel fit
Current rating holds flat at 250 A from 40 °C through 50 °C, then derates to 238 A at 55 °C, 225 A at 60 °C, 213 A at 65 °C, and 200 A at 70 °C. If the panel ambient runs above 50 °C, the breaker's effective capacity drops — account for that in the bus and cable sizing. The case measures 105 mm wide, 181 mm tall, and 86 mm deep; it mounts on a DIN rail or directly to a backplate. Max power loss is 48 W, so allow ventilation if the enclosure is tight.
This MCCB is a line-protection device, not a motor-protective breaker — it lacks a trip indicator and undervoltage release. The adjustable thermal-magnetic trip is set at the factory for a full-scale value of 250 A with an initial setting of 50 A. For motor-starting duty, pair it with a separate overload relay.
