What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3VA2225-5JQ32-0KL0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) designed for line protection in distribution panels. It's a 3-pole unit with a full-scale rating of 250 A and an adjustable trip range from 50 A minimum to 250 A maximum, so you can dial it in for the actual load without swapping the breaker. Rated current holds at 250 A through 50 °C ambient, then derates to 238 A at 55 °C, 225 A at 60 °C, 213 A at 65 °C, and 200 A at 70 °C — that thermal curve matters if this breaker sits in a hot enclosure or next to other heat sources. Interrupting capacity is 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 4.5 kA at 690 V. At the higher voltages the fault-current capability drops off sharply, so verify your available fault current at the point of installation.
Panel fit and integration
Dimensions are 181 mm high, 105 mm wide, 86 mm deep — standard 3-pole MCCB footprint for a 250 A frame. It mounts on a DIN rail or directly to a backplate; the 86 mm depth leaves room for rear-connected busbars in a typical distribution cabinet. Power loss is rated at 48 W maximum — account for that heat in your enclosure thermal calculation, especially if the panel is sealed or has limited airflow. Comes with a shunt trip (STL) for remote tripping and a full auxiliary switch complement: 2 auxiliary switches + 1 trip alarm switch + 1 electrical alarm switch (HQ configuration). That gives you status feedback for PLC or SCADA without adding external relays. Communication function is built in — the breaker can report status and accept remote commands over the bus, which saves wiring on larger switchgear lineups.
