What it is and what the ratings mean
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2225-5KP32-0KA0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 250 A continuous current at 40 °C, designed for line protection in distribution panels. Its interrupting capacity reaches 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V, and 121 kA at 440 V — meaning it can safely clear high-fault currents in low-voltage mains without upstream cascading. At 690 V the rating drops to 4.5 kA, so this breaker is best suited for 400 V-class systems where the full 121 kA is available. Thermal derating starts at 55 °C: 238 A at 55 °C, 225 A at 60 °C, 213 A at 65 °C, and 200 A at 70 °C. If the panel ambient runs above 50 °C, the continuous current must be reduced accordingly — a common oversight in sealed enclosures.
Integration notes
Dimensions are 105 mm wide, 181 mm high, and 86 mm deep — a standard 3-pole MCCB footprint that fits most DIN-rail or panel-mount enclosures. The breaker includes a shunt trip release (STL) for remote tripping and a communication function for integration with a BMS or PLC-based monitoring system. No auxiliary switch or undervoltage release is fitted on this variant.
