What it is and what it does
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2225-6HL32-0DB0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 250 A continuous current, designed for line protection in distribution panels. It carries a maximum breaking capacity of 242 kA at 240 V, stepping down to 187 kA at 415/440 V, 121 kA at 500 V, and 4.5 kA at 690 V — so it handles high fault currents on the low-voltage side while still clearing faults at higher voltages, though the 690 V rating is modest and worth checking against your system's available fault current. This MCCB includes an undervoltage release (UVR) and comes with 2 auxiliary switches HP built in, which simplifies wiring for remote status indication or shunt-trip coordination. No ground-fault monitoring or communication function is integrated — this is a straightforward thermal-magnetic or electronic trip unit for main feeder or large branch protection.
Current rating and thermal derating
The 250 A continuous rating holds at ambient temperatures up to 50 °C. Above that, it derates: 241 A at 55 °C, 232 A at 60 °C, 222 A at 65 °C, and 213 A at 70 °C. If your panel runs hot — say, near the 70 °C operating maximum — you lose about 15 % of the rated current. Plan your load margin accordingly, especially in a sealed enclosure.
Panel fit and integration
Dimensions are 105 mm wide, 181 mm high, and 86 mm deep — a standard SENTRON 3VA2 frame size that mounts on a DIN rail or panel-mount adapter. The 3-pole footprint fits alongside other SENTRON breakers in a distribution board. Power loss at rated current is 50.5 W maximum, so factor that into your enclosure thermal budget.
