What this 250 A MCCB delivers
The Siemens 3VA2225-6HL32-0HB0 is a 3-pole SENTRON molded case circuit breaker rated for 250 A continuous at 40 °C ambient, with the same 250 A holding through 50 °C — no derating needed in a warm panel up to that point. Above 50 °C it steps down linearly to 213 A at 70 °C, which is the maximum operating ambient. The ETU320 electronic trip unit gives you adjustable long-time, short-time, and instantaneous protection curves, so selectivity coordination downstream is programmable rather than fixed. Breaking capacity is 187 kA at 415 V AC and 440 V AC, dropping to 121 kA at 500 V and 4.5 kA at 690 V. At 240 V it handles 242 kA. That puts it in the high-interrupting range for industrial distribution — it clears a bolted fault on the secondary of a large transformer without needing a current-limiting fuse upstream. The breaker ships with a shunt trip release (STL) for remote emergency-off or undervoltage tripping, plus two HP auxiliary switches for status feedback to a PLC or annunciator. No ground-fault monitoring module is fitted on this variant — that would be a separate order option.
Panel fit and mounting
Dimensions are 105 mm wide, 181 mm tall, 86 mm deep — standard 3-pole MCCB footprint for the 250 A frame. It mounts on a DIN rail or directly to a backplate via the screw terminals. The IP40 front face keeps dust out of the trip-unit compartment; the rest of the breaker is open to the enclosure air for heat dissipation. Power loss at rated current is 48 W maximum — factor that into your enclosure thermal calculation if you are stacking multiple breakers in a sealed cabinet.
Lifecycle and compliance
Storage range is -40 °C to +80 °C, so it handles cold warehouses and hot shipping containers without issue.
