What it is and what it does
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2225-6HN32-0HA0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for line protection, carrying 250 A continuous current at 40 °C and delivering a 242 kA interrupting rating at 240 V. That breaking capacity drops to 187 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 121 kA at 500 V, and 6 kA at 690 V — so the real-world SCCR you can count on depends entirely on your system voltage. The ETU350 electronic trip unit gives you adjustable long-time, short-time, and instantaneous protection curves, which is what you need for selective coordination downstream of a transformer or upstream of motor feeders.
Trip unit and auxiliary release
This MCCB ships with an ETU350 electronic overcurrent release — no ground-fault monitoring, no phase-failure detection, no communication function. It does include a shunt trip (STL) auxiliary release (order code 3VA9688-0BL30 for the integrated auxiliary trip) and a voltage trigger. The shunt trip lets you remotely open the breaker via a control signal, which is standard for emergency-stop circuits or interlocking schemes. No undervoltage release is fitted, and there are no auxiliary contacts on the basic switch — if you need status feedback to a PLC, plan for an external auxiliary contact block.
Thermal derating and endurance
The 250 A rating holds flat up to 50 °C ambient. Above that, it derates linearly: 241 A at 55 °C, 232 A at 60 °C, 222 A at 65 °C, and 213 A at 70 °C. If your panel ambient runs hot — say, inside a compact MCC lineup or near a transformer — the 70 °C figure is the one to size against. Mechanical endurance is 20,000 operations (latching), which is typical for a distribution-grade MCCB; not a switching duty cycle, but fine for infrequent manual or remote operation. Maximum power loss is 48 W, which matters for enclosure heat rise calculations.
Physical fit and panel integration
Dimensions are 105 mm wide, 181 mm tall, and 86 mm deep. That 86 mm depth is the body only — allow clearance for the shunt trip wiring and any external auxiliary contact block you add. The 105 mm width is standard for a 250 A frame MCCB; it fits Siemens 3VA2 panel-mounting hardware and most common DIN-rail adapters. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C.
