What this MCCB carries
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2225-6JP32-0CC0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 250 A continuous current (Iu) with an ETU550 electronic trip unit, configured for line protection duty. It's part of the 3VA series, which replaced the older 3VL line and sits as the current-generation platform for panelboard and switchboard feeder protection. Breaking capacity hits 242 kA at 240 V AC, 187 kA at 415 V, and 121 kA at 500 V — numbers that put it in the high-interrupting category for industrial distribution. At 690 V it still holds 6 kA, enough for most motor-circuit coordination studies.
Trip unit and auxiliaries
The ETU550 is a microprocessor-based electronic trip unit offering LSIG protection (long-time, short-time, instantaneous, ground-fault) with adjustable settings. Communication function is built in — this variant supports fieldbus integration for power monitoring and remote trip indication, which saves adding a separate metering module. It ships with an undervoltage release (UVR) installed (order code 3VA9608-0BB24) and 2 high-capacity auxiliary switches (HQ type). The base switch mechanism is 3VA2225-6JP32-0AA0. No voltage trigger or phase failure detection on this variant.
Thermal derating and panel fit
Full 250 A rating holds up to 50 °C ambient. Above that it derates linearly: 238 A at 55 °C, 225 A at 60 °C, 213 A at 65 °C, and 200 A at 70 °C. If the panel ambient runs hot, factor that into the feeder schedule — don't just read the nameplate. Dimensions are 181 mm high × 105 mm wide × 86 mm deep. The 105 mm width is standard for a 250 A frame in the 3VA range.
