What this MCCB carries and where it lands
The Siemens 3VA2225-6KP32-0CA0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker from the SENTRON 3VA2 series, rated for 250 A continuous current with an ETU850 electronic trip unit. Breaking capacity hits 242 kA at 240 V, 187 kA at 415 V and 440 V, and 121 kA at 500 V — at 690 V it still holds 6 kA. That's enough SCCR headroom for most industrial distribution panels without cascading upstream breakers. The front face carries IP40 protection, so it's panel-mount only — not washdown-rated. This is a line-protection version (not motor-protection), meaning the trip curve and accessories are tuned for feeder and main breaker duty. It ships with an undervoltage release (UVR) pre-installed — part number 3VA9608-0BB24 for the integrated auxiliary trip — and has communication function onboard, so it can talk to a BMS or PLC without an add-on module.
Thermal derating and panel fit
At 40 °C, 45 °C, and 50 °C the breaker holds its full 250 A rating. At 55 °C it derates to 238 A, at 60 °C to 225 A, at 65 °C to 213 A, and at 70 °C to 200 A. If this lives in a hot enclosure — say a steel panel in a foundry or near a drive stack — that 70 °C figure is the one to plan around. Dimensions are 105 mm wide, 181 mm tall, 86 mm deep, which is the standard 3VA2 3-pole footprint. No auxiliary contacts on this variant; if you need them downstream, the base switch (3VA2225-6KP32-0AA0) is the same frame without the UVR.
What the ETU850 trip unit gives you
The ETU850 is an electronic trip unit with LSIG protection — long-time delay, short-time delay, instantaneous, and ground-fault. It's field-adjustable via the front dials, so you can coordinate selectivity downstream without swapping trip packs.
Integration into an existing panel
Mounts on a standard DIN rail or direct-panel via the 3VA2 mounting brackets. The 105 mm width matches the 3VA2 frame; if you're swapping out an older 3VA1 or a different brand, check the busbar pitch and lug spacing.
