What the ratings mean for your panel
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2225-6KP32-0HL0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 250 A continuous current at 40 °C, designed for line-protection duty in main distribution panels and feeder circuits. Its interrupting capacity of 242 kA at 240 V AC and 187 kA at 415 V AC means it can safely clear high-fault currents without cascading upstream — critical for industrial installations where available fault current exceeds 100 kA. The breaker holds its full 250 A rating up to 50 °C ambient; above that, thermal derating applies: 238 A at 55 °C, 225 A at 60 °C, 213 A at 65 °C, and 200 A at 70 °C. This derating curve matters when the breaker is in a crowded, poorly ventilated enclosure. At 690 V the breaking capacity drops to 4.5 kA, so this breaker is not suited for 690 V feeder duty where high fault current is expected — selectivity coordination at that voltage level requires a different frame.
Sourcing and lifecycle
The breaker includes a communication function and ships with a shunt trip release (STL) plus a configurable auxiliary switch block: 2 auxiliary switches + 1 trip alarm switch + 1 electrical alarm switch HQ.
Panel integration and mounting
The breaker occupies 105 mm width × 181 mm height × 86 mm depth on the panel — a standard 3-pole MCCB footprint that fits most DIN-rail or direct-mount distribution boards. Maximum power dissipation is 48 W at rated load, so adjacent devices need adequate spacing or forced ventilation to stay within the 70 °C operating maximum. Storage range of -40 °C to 80 °C covers unheated warehouses; operating range is -25 °C to 70 °C, suitable for most indoor industrial environments.
