SENTRON 3VA2 MCCB — 250 A, 3-pole, ETU550
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2225-7JP32-0CA0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated 250 A continuous at 40 °C, carrying a 330 kA interrupting capacity at 240 V and 242 kA at 415 V. That interrupting rating means it clears high-fault currents on the secondary side of a large transformer or near the service entrance without needing an upstream current-limiting fuse — the breaker itself handles the full available fault current. The ETU550 electronic trip unit provides adjustable long-time, short-time, and instantaneous protection curves, plus ground-fault alarm or trip if configured. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V, so it's suitable for 480/277 V and 600 V systems with margin. The front face carries IP40 protection — fine for a dry indoor panel, but not for washdown areas.
Line protection variant with undervoltage release and comms
This order code is the line protection version (product version field confirms it), meaning the trip unit is configured for feeder or main breaker duty — not motor protection. It ships with an undervoltage release and a communication function, so it can be integrated into a higher-level monitoring system over the SENTRON bus or PROFIBUS/PROFINET via the communication module. Power loss at full rated current is 50.5 W — a factor for panel thermal budgeting when several breakers are ganged in a switchboard.
Physical fit and ambient derating
Dimensions are 105 mm wide, 181 mm tall, 86 mm deep — standard SENTRON 3VA2 frame size. It mounts on a mounting plate or DIN rail via an adapter; the 105 mm width occupies 4.13 inches of panel space. Ambient temperature derating starts at 55 °C: still carries 238 A at 55 °C, 225 A at 60 °C, 213 A at 65 °C, and 200 A at 70 °C. Storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C; operating range is -25 °C to 70 °C. If the panel ambient runs above 50 °C, the continuous current must be derated per the table.
