What this MCCB is and what it handles
The Siemens 3VA2325-5HL32-0JL0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 250 A continuous current at 40 °C, three poles, with a line protection version and an ETU320 electronic trip unit. It's built for main feeders and large branch circuits in industrial switchboards where you need high interrupting capacity without taking up a full cabinet bay.
Breaking capacity — the number that decides selectivity
The short-circuit rating here is 187 kA at 240 V, dropping to 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, then 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 17 kA at 690 V. That 187 kA at 240 V means this breaker can sit upstream of a transformer or a large motor control center and still coordinate with downstream devices — you're not forced into a fused switch just to get the interrupting rating. At 690 V the 17 kA figure still covers most industrial service-entrance faults.
Thermal derating and where it matters
Rated 250 A from 40 °C through 50 °C, then it starts to pull back: 240 A at 55 °C, 235 A at 60 °C, 230 A at 65 °C, and 225 A at 70 °C. If your panel sits in a hot mill environment or a non-conditioned electrical room that hits 55 °C in summer, you lose only 10 A — that's a shallow derating curve, which means the breaker isn't oversized just to survive ambient heat. The maximum power loss is 37.5 W, so ventilation in the enclosure is still worth planning for.
What fits in the panel
Dimensions: 248 mm high, 138 mm wide, 110 mm deep. That depth — 110 mm — is shallow enough to fit in a 300 mm deep enclosure with room for rear cable entry or busbar connections. The 138 mm width for a 3-pole 250 A frame is standard for SENTRON 3VA2 breakers, so a panel laid out for a 3VA2 family breaker takes this without re-drilling the mounting plate.
Auxiliary and trip accessories built in
Comes with 2 auxiliary switches plus 1 trip alarm and 1 electrical alarm switch (HQ configuration), plus a shunt trip release (STL) for remote tripping. No undervoltage release, no communication module, no ground-fault monitoring — this is a straight line-protection MCCB with remote-trip capability and status feedback. The ETU320 trip unit handles the overcurrent protection curves; the voltage trigger is present for undervoltage or overvoltage sensing if wired externally.
Environmental range
Operates from -25 °C to 70 °C, stores from -40 °C to 80 °C. The storage range covers cold-weather shipping and hot warehouse storage without damage. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V, which gives headroom for 690 V systems without de-rating the insulation coordination.
