Motor-protection MCCB for 250 A feeder circuits
The Siemens 3VA2325-5MN32-0AG0 is a SENTRON 3VA2 molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) designed specifically for motor protection, with phase failure detection built in. It carries a continuous current rating of 250 A across the full ambient temperature range from 40 °C to 70 °C — no derating needed up to that ceiling — making it a straight drop-in for a 250 A motor feeder or distribution branch that sees elevated panel temperatures. Breaking capacity is 187 kA at 240 V AC, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 7.5 kA at 690 V. That 187 kA figure at 240 V covers high-fault industrial and commercial services where the available short-circuit current is extreme — think large transformer secondaries or generator paralleling. At 415 V the 121 kA rating still exceeds most panelboard SCCR requirements, so selectivity with upstream breakers is achievable without oversizing.
Integration and panel fit
Three-pole construction with a 138 mm width, 248 mm height, and 110 mm depth. The 110 mm depth is shallow enough for most 200 mm deep enclosures; verify the handle throw clearance in a retrofit panel. The basic switch variant is 3VA2325-5MN32-0AA0; this order code adds one auxiliary switch and one trip alarm switch (HP design), so you get remote status indication without an add-on module. No undervoltage release, no ground-fault monitoring, and no communication function — this is a pure thermal-magnetic motor-protection breaker with phase failure detection. For applications that need shunt trip or ground-fault, the 3VA2 platform supports those as auxiliary releases, but this specific order code omits them. Power loss at rated current is 37.5 W maximum; factor that into enclosure ventilation if the panel is densely packed.
