What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3VA2325-8HL32-0AA0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 250 A continuous current, with a 3-pole configuration and an ETU320 electronic trip unit. It's designed for line protection — meaning it sits at the feeder or main distribution point, not on a motor branch. The ETU320 gives you adjustable thermal and magnetic trip settings, so you can dial in coordination with downstream breakers without swapping trip units.
Breaking capacity — what the numbers mean for your panel
This MCCB delivers 440 kA interrupting capacity at 240 V, 330 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 220 kA at 500 V, and 52.5 kA at 690 V. Those are the maximum fault currents it can safely clear at each voltage level. For a 480 V panel, the 330 kA figure at 440 V is the closest reference — plenty of headroom for most industrial services. The 690 V rating (52.5 kA) is what you'd check for 600 V class Canadian or mining installations. If your available fault current at the line side exceeds these numbers, you need a current-limiting upstream device or a higher-rated frame.
Thermal performance — it holds 250 A across the board
The continuous current rating is 250 A from 40 °C all the way up to 70 °C ambient — no derating needed within that range. That's unusual for an MCCB; most frames start dropping current above 40 °C. The ETU320's thermal memory means it tracks prior heating, so repetitive overloads close to the threshold won't sneak through. Power loss at full load is 37.5 W maximum — factor that into enclosure ventilation if you're packing multiple breakers in a tight panel.
Physical fit and panel integration
Dimensions: 248 mm high, 138 mm wide, 110 mm deep. That's a 3-pole frame size — mounts on a DIN rail or direct panel-mount via the screw terminals. IP40 on the front means it's protected against tools and wires >1 mm, but not against water ingress; keep it inside a rated enclosure. The ETU320's adjustment dials are accessible through the front cover without removing the breaker.
Environmental limits
Operating temperature range: -25 °C to 70 °C. Storage range: -40 °C to 80 °C. The storage limits are wider because the breaker isn't carrying current — no self-heating to worry about. Insulation voltage rated at 800 V, so it's comfortable on 480 V and 600 V systems with margin.
