Rated continuous current and thermal derating
The 3VA2340-5HL32-0CC0 carries a continuous current rating of 400 A, maintained from 40 °C up to 50 °C ambient. Above 50 °C the rating steps down: 385 A at 55 °C, 370 A at 60 °C, 355 A at 65 °C, and 340 A at 70 °C. That 400 A figure is the thermal benchmark for sizing the feeder — if the panel ambient runs above 50 °C, the breaker must be derated or the circuit limited to the lower value.
Interrupting capacity by system voltage
Rated short-circuit breaking capacity is voltage-dependent: 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 7.5 kA at 690 V. For a 480 V system the 75.6 kA figure applies — verify that against the available fault current at the panelboard. The 690 V rating is lower but still covers most industrial distribution levels.
Physical footprint and panel integration
Dimensions: 248 mm high, 138 mm wide, 110 mm deep. That 138 mm width (5.43 in) is the standard three-pole MCCB footprint for the SENTRON 3VA platform — it fits the same mounting cutout and bus-bar spacing as other 3VA three-pole frames. Depth of 110 mm (4.33 in) leaves clearance for rear-access connections in a typical switchboard.
Auxiliary switch and undervoltage release
This variant includes two auxiliary switches (HQ type) and an undervoltage release (UVR). The UVR trips the breaker when control voltage drops below a set threshold — common in safety circuits or emergency-stop chains where loss of control power must open the main contacts. The auxiliary switches provide remote status feedback (open/closed/tripped) to a PLC or annunciator.
