Breaking capacity and thermal derating
The 3VA2340-5HL42-0KH0: Breaking capacity drops from 187 kA at 240 V to 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, then 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 17 kA at 690 V — the high 240 V figure covers low-voltage utility feeds; the 415 V rating is the one to check for most European industrial mains. Thermal derating begins at 55 °C: 385 A at 55 °C, 370 A at 60 °C, 355 A at 65 °C, 340 A at 70 °C. Up to 50 °C you get the full 400 A.
Auxiliary and trip configuration
Shunt trip (STL) installed as standard — designated 3VA9688-0BL33. Auxiliary contact version carries 2 auxiliary switches plus 1 trip alarm switch (HQ). Trip indicator and voltage trigger are present; no undervoltage release, no ground fault monitoring, no communication function, no phase failure detection. The basic switch variant is 3VA2340-5HL42-0AA0.
