400 A MCCB with ETU560 — interrupting capacity across the voltage range
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2340-5JQ42-0AE0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for line protection, carrying 400 A continuous current at 40 °C through 50 °C without derating. At 55 °C the rating steps to 375 A, at 60 °C to 350 A, and at 70 °C to 300 A — the thermal curve is published, so panel ambient determines the real ampacity. Interrupting capacity runs 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 17 kA at 690 V. Those are the short-circuit ratings at the respective line voltages — the breaker clears faults up to those levels without upstream coordination failure. The ETU560 electronic trip unit handles the protection curve. Communication function is built in, and the breaker ships with 4 auxiliary switches (HQ configuration) for status feedback to a PLC or SCADA. Ground-fault monitoring uses summation-current formation on L+N conductors.
Physical fit and panel integration
Dimensions: 248 mm height, 184 mm width, 110 mm depth. The 4-pole frame mounts in a standard MCCB panel footprint; the 110 mm depth leaves clearance for rear-access busbars and cable routing in most 600 mm deep enclosures. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range -40 °C to 80 °C. Maximum power loss at rated current is 96 W — account for that in enclosure thermal calculations if the panel is densely populated.
Trip unit and auxiliary configuration
The ETU560 overcurrent release is programmable. No undervoltage release or voltage trigger is fitted on this variant. The supplied basic switch is order code 3VA2340-5JQ42-0AA0; the integrated auxiliary trip is 3VA9608-0BB11 — those are the factory-matched subcomponents if you need spares. Latching endurance is rated at 15,000 operations. No trip indicator is present on this version.
