SENTRON 3VA2340-5JQ42-0KC0 — 400 A MCCB with ETU560, 4-Pole, Active Production
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2340-5JQ42-0KC0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for line protection, carrying a continuous current Iu of 400 A at 40 °C with an insulation voltage Ui of 800 V. Its ETU560 electronic trip unit provides adjustable overcurrent protection, and the breaker integrates a shunt trip (STL) and two auxiliary switches HQ for remote status feedback. Communication functionality is built in, enabling integration with higher-level control systems.
Breaking Capacity and Selectivity Planning
Breaking capacity varies sharply with system voltage: 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 17 kA at 690 V. These figures cover most low-voltage distribution panels; the 17 kA at 690 V still handles typical industrial fault levels on 690 V networks. For selectivity coordination, the high interrupting ratings at 240–440 V allow this breaker to serve as a main or feeder device upstream of lower-rated branch breakers.
Thermal Derating and Panel Integration
Rated 400 A from 40 °C through 50 °C ambient; above that, the continuous current derates linearly to 375 A at 55 °C, 350 A at 60 °C, 325 A at 65 °C, and 300 A at 70 °C. Operating ambient range is –25 °C to +70 °C. Dimensions of 248 mm high × 184 mm wide × 110 mm deep fit standard SENTRON 3VA panel cutouts. Power loss at full rated current is 96 W maximum — account for this in enclosure thermal calculations, especially in sealed or high-ambient cabinets.
