What it is and what it does
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2340-5KP32-0HL0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 400 A continuous current, designed for line protection in distribution panels. Its interrupting capacity reaches 187 kA at 240 V and 121 kA at 415 V, dropping to 7.5 kA at 690 V — so at standard 400 V distribution voltages you have serious fault-clearing headroom for high-fault installations. The adjustable current range spans 600 A to 4 000 A, meaning this breaker can be tuned for downstream coordination without swapping the frame.
Thermal derating and real-world loading
At 40 °C, 45 °C, and 50 °C the breaker holds its full 400 A rating; at 55 °C it derates to 375 A, at 60 °C to 350 A, at 65 °C to 325 A, and at 70 °C to 300 A. Maximum power loss is 96 W, which matters for enclosure heat rise calculations when multiple breakers are ganged.
Auxiliary configuration and communication
This variant ships with a shunt trip (STL) release plus two auxiliary switches, one trip alarm switch, and one electrical alarm switch — enough for remote status and emergency trip without adding modules. It includes a communication function and a voltage trigger, so it can talk to a BMS or PLC for load shedding or fault annunciation.
Dimensions and panel fit
At 248 mm high, 138 mm wide, and 110 mm deep, this MCCB fits standard SENTRON mounting patterns and backpanel layouts. The 110 mm depth (4.33 in) leaves room for rear-access wiring in a 600 mm deep enclosure.
