400 A MCCB with ETU320 — what the ratings mean for the panel
The Siemens 3VA2340-6HL32-0BH0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker rated for 400 A continuous current at 40 °C, with the ETU320 electronic overcurrent release handling the trip curve. That 400 A holds flat through 50 °C (–); above that it derates to 385 A at 55 °C, 370 A at 60 °C, 355 A at 65 °C, and 340 A at 70 °C (–) — so if this lives in a hot enclosure, the actual continuous duty is lower than the faceplate number. Breaking capacity is the headline: 242 kA at 240 V, 187 kA at 415 V and 440 V (–), 121 kA at 500 V, and 40 kA at 690 V. That 242 kA at 240 V puts it in the high-interrupting class — it clears faults without cascading upstream, which matters for a main or tie breaker in a high-fault panel. The 3-pole design suits three-phase line protection. It ships with an undervoltage release (UVR) built in, plus a 2-auxiliary-switch + 1-trip-alarm-switch HQ contact block. The integrated auxiliary trip is order code 3VA9608-0BB11; the supplied basic switch is 3VA2340-6HL32-0AA0. No ground-fault monitoring, no communication function, no phase-failure detection.
Panel fit and integration
Footprint: 110 mm deep, 138 mm wide, 248 mm tall. That 138 mm width is the standard 3-pole MCCB form factor for the 3VA2 frame — it drops into the same mounting footprint as other 3VA2 three-pole units. Rated insulation voltage Ui is 800 V. Power loss at full rated current is 98.5 W maximum. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C. Latching endurance is 15,000 operations.
