400 A MCCB with adjustable trip and high interrupting capacity
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2340-6HL32-0KL0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for 400 A continuous current at 40 °C, with an adjustable overload trip range from 600 A minimum to 4 000 A maximum. It is designed for line protection in distribution panels and switchgear. Interrupting capacity is 242 kA at 240 V, 187 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 121 kA at 500 V, and 7.5 kA at 690 V. At 690 V the rating drops sharply — verify the available fault current at the point of installation before specifying. Current-carrying capability is temperature-dependent: full 400 A up to 50 °C, then derates to 385 A at 55 °C, 370 A at 60 °C, 355 A at 65 °C, and 340 A at 70 °C. Panel ambient above 50 °C requires applying the derating curve.
Panel integration and auxiliary wiring
Footprint is 110 mm deep, 138 mm wide, 248 mm tall — mounts on a DIN rail or directly to a backplate. The 3-pole block leaves room for side-mounted auxiliary switches and a shunt trip release (STL) on the right side. Comes with 2 auxiliary switches, 1 trip alarm switch, and 1 electrical alarm switch (HQ configuration). The undervoltage release is not fitted; if undervoltage protection is needed, specify a different variant or add an external relay.
Lifecycle and sourcing
The base switch variant is 3VA2340-6HL32-0AA0; the -0KL0 suffix adds the specific auxiliary switch and shunt trip package. Power loss at rated current is 96 W maximum — factor into enclosure thermal calculations.
