Molded case circuit breaker, 400 A frame, 3-pole
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2340-6HN32-0AH0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 400 A continuous current, designed for line protection in distribution panels. It carries a breaking capacity of 242 kA at 240 V, 187 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 121 kA at 500 V, and 7.5 kA at 690 V — the voltage-dependent curve tells you the fault current it can safely interrupt at your system voltage. At 690 V the 7.5 kA rating is the limiting factor; above that level the breaker cannot clear the fault without risk of arc-over, so verify your available fault current at that voltage before specifying.
Thermal derating and power loss
The 400 A rating holds up to 50 °C ambient. Above that it derates linearly: 385 A at 55 °C, 370 A at 60 °C, 355 A at 65 °C, and 340 A at 70 °C. If your panel ambient runs hot — say a sealed enclosure near a furnace line — size the load current against the derated value at your actual ambient, not the nameplate 400 A. Maximum power loss is 96 W, which matters for enclosure thermal calculations when grouping several breakers in a confined space.
Panel fit and auxiliary configuration
Dimensions are 248 mm high, 138 mm wide, 110 mm deep — a standard 3-pole MCCB footprint for panel mounting on a backplate or mounting pan. The breaker ships with 2 auxiliary switches plus 1 trip alarm switch (HQ type), wired for status feedback to a PLC or indication lamp. No undervoltage release, no ground-fault monitoring, no communication module on this variant — it is a straight line-protection breaker with aux contacts for remote status. The supplied basic switch is order code 3VA2340-6HN32-0AA0.
