Line-up specs and what they mean for your panel
The SENTRON 3VA2340-6KP32-0AB0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for 400 A continuous current (Iu) at up to 50 °C ambient — above that, the thermal curve pulls it back: 375 A at 55 °C, 350 A at 60 °C, 325 A at 65 °C, and 300 A at 70 °C. That derating matters if you're packing this into a warm enclosure or a high-density switchboard row. Breaking capacity is the headline here: 242 kA at 240 V, 187 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 121 kA at 500 V, and 40 kA at 690 V. That 242 kA at 240 V is high — it tells you this breaker is designed for high-fault-capacity installations where the upstream transformer can dump serious current into a bolted fault. The 40 kA at 690 V still covers most industrial 690 V distribution. It uses an ETU850 electronic trip unit — that's the communicable version, so you get the communication function and other measurement functions built in, meaning it can talk to a BMS or SCADA for power monitoring and event logging. No undervoltage release, no voltage trigger, no ground-fault monitoring on this variant — those are separate add-on modules if your spec requires them. Physical footprint: 248 mm high, 138 mm wide, 110 mm deep. That's a standard 3-pole MCCB form factor for the 400 A frame class — it fits existing SENTRON mounting bases and busbar systems without panel rework. IP40 on the front means it's protected against tools and wires >1 mm, but not against moisture — keep it in a dry indoor panel.
Integration and wiring notes
Rated insulation voltage Ui is 800 V, so the internal clearances and creepage are designed for 690 V systems with margin. Maximum power loss is 96 W — that's the heat you need to vent in the enclosure. Latching endurance is 15 000 operations, which is typical for a line-protection MCCB; not a switching-duty device for frequent motor starts. Comes with 2 auxiliary switches (HP type) pre-installed. No trip indicator on the front — if you need visual trip indication, you'll add an external auxiliary contact or indicator module. Ambient operating range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range -40 °C to 80 °C.
