The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2340-8HL32-0AA0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 400 A continuous current, designed for line protection in industrial power distribution. It carries the ETU320 electronic overcurrent release, which provides adjustable long-time, short-time, instantaneous, and ground-fault protection curves — a step up from thermal-magnetic trip units for selectivity coordination.
Breaking capacity and selectivity
Breaking capacity is 440 kA at 240 V, 330 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 220 kA at 500 V, and 52.5 kA at 690 V. These figures place it in the high-interrupting category — suitable for installation close to the transformer secondary where fault currents are highest. The 800 V rated insulation voltage confirms it can be applied on 690 V systems with adequate clearance.
Thermal management and panel fit
At 400 A load the maximum power loss is 96 W. The breaker carries its full 400 A rating up to 50 °C ambient; above that it derates linearly to 340 A at 70 °C. Operating range is -25 °C to +70 °C. Front IP40 protection means it is suited for enclosed switchboards — not for washdown environments. Dimensions are 248 mm height, 138 mm width, 110 mm depth, which fits standard SENTRON 3VA mounting patterns for retrofit into existing Siemens MCCB panels.
