The Siemens 3VA2340-8HL32-0AJ0 is a SENTRON 3VA2 molded case circuit breaker, 3-pole, rated 400 A continuously at 40 °C ambient. It carries the ETU320 electronic trip unit — no communication module, no undervoltage release, no ground-fault monitoring on this variant. Breaking capacity runs 440 kA at 240 V, 330 kA at 415 V, and 52.5 kA at 690 V, so it handles high-fault utility feeds and transformer secondaries without cascading upstream.
Current derating and thermal limits
Full 400 A rating holds through 50 °C. Above that it steps down: 385 A at 55 °C, 370 A at 60 °C, 355 A at 65 °C, 340 A at 70 °C. If the panel ambient runs past 50 °C, the continuous current drops — size the feeder and downstream bus for the derated figure, not the nameplate. Maximum power loss is 96 W at rated load; that heat has to leave the enclosure.
Integration notes
Dimensions: 248 mm high, 138 mm wide, 110 mm deep. Front protection is IP40 — fine for a clean panel interior, but not for washdown or outdoor exposure. The auxiliary switch configuration is 2 aux + 1 trip alarm switch (HP type). Rated insulation voltage is 800 V, so it's comfortable on 480 V and 600 V class systems. Storage range -40 to 80 °C; operating -25 to 70 °C.
