What this MCCB delivers
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2440-5HL32-0HL0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for 400 A continuous current (Iu) at ambient temperatures up to 50 °C, with full 400 A rating maintained across 40 °C to 50 °C before derating begins at 55 °C (384 A) and steps down to 360 A at 70 °C. Interrupting capacity hits 187 kA at 240 V AC, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 17 kA at 690 V — so it handles high-fault utility feeds and transformer secondaries without cascading upstream. The ETU320 electronic trip unit provides adjustable long-time, short-time, instantaneous, and ground-fault protection curves, with a shunt trip (STL) auxiliary release for remote tripping. Auxiliary contact configuration is 2 auxiliary switches + 1 trip alarm switch + 1 electrical alarm switch HQ, giving you status feedback for PLC or SCADA.
Integration and panel fit
Dimensions are 248 mm height, 138 mm width, and 110 mm depth — mounts into standard switchboard or panelboard cutouts for 400 A frame MCCBs. The 3-pole construction fits three-phase distribution. Maximum power loss is 63.5 W, so factor heat dissipation into enclosure sizing if grouping multiple breakers. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C.
Trip unit and auxiliary components
The overcurrent release is the ETU320, an electronic trip unit with LSI protection (long-time, short-time, instantaneous). The supplied basic switch is order code 3VA2440-5HL32-0AA0, and the integrated auxiliary trip is 3VA9688-0BL30 — both are internal sub-assemblies, not field-replaceable modules. The shunt trip (STL) design allows remote opening via a control voltage. There is no undervoltage release, no communication function, no phase failure detection, and no ground fault monitoring on this variant.
