What this MCCB delivers for the line
The 3VA2440-5HL32-0JH0: Breaking capacity is the headline: 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 17 kA at 690 V. That gives you selectivity headroom for high-fault utility feeds or transformer secondaries — the 187 kA figure at 240 V is enough to clear a bolted fault on a large step-down transformer without upstream coordination headaches. Thermal derating is published across the full ambient range: full 400 A rating holds up to 50 °C, then steps down to 384 A at 55 °C, 376 A at 60 °C, 368 A at 65 °C, and 360 A at 70 °C. If your panel internal ambient runs above 50 °C, you need to account for that drop — the 400 A nameplate doesn't hold at the top of the enclosure.
Coordination and integration detail
Rated insulation voltage Ui is 800 V, so this breaker is suitable for 480/277 V and 600 V nominal systems with margin. The auxiliary contact block ships with 2 auxiliary switches plus 1 trip alarm switch (HQ configuration) — enough for remote status and a separate alarm signal back to the PLC or annunciator. The breaker ships with a basic switch (3VA2440-5HL32-0AA0) and an integrated auxiliary trip (3VA9688-0BL32) already fitted. That means the shunt trip coil and the auxiliary contacts are factory-installed — no field assembly required, and the wiring diagram stays clean for the panel builder. Dimensions: 138 mm wide, 248 mm tall, 110 mm deep. The 138 mm width is standard for a 3-pole 400 A frame in the SENTRON 3VA platform — it fits the same mounting footprint as other 3VA breakers in this current class, so a panel designed for a 3VA2116 or similar will accept this unit without re-drilling the backplate.
