400 A continuous, full temperature range — no derating needed
The Siemens 3VA2440-5MN32-0KA0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker rated for 400 A continuous from 40 °C all the way up to 70 °C ambient. That means you don't have to derate for a hot panel — it holds 400 A across the entire operating range, which is uncommon for an MCCB this size. It's a 3-pole unit designed specifically for motor protection, with built-in phase failure detection so it catches a lost phase before the motor cooks. Breaking capacity hits 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V, and still carries 75.6 kA at 500 V. At 690 V it drops to 9 kA — that's the limit for that voltage class. The 5 kA limited-to-1-second rating tells you the short-time withstand for coordination studies. This breaker includes a shunt trip release (STL) for remote tripping, but no undervoltage release and no auxiliary switch. It has a voltage trigger indicator and no communication module — it's a standalone protective device, not a smart breaker. The trip indicator is absent, so you'll need to verify trip status visually at the handle.
Panel fit — 138 mm wide, 248 mm tall, 110 mm deep
The 3VA2440-5MN32-0KA0 measures 138 mm wide by 248 mm tall by 110 mm deep. That's a standard footprint for a 400 A SENTRON frame — it'll drop into existing 3VA panel cutouts without re-drilling. The 110 mm depth (4.33 in) means it fits shallow enclosures where a full-size air breaker won't. Mounts on a DIN rail or direct-panel bolt pattern; the supplied basic switch is order code 3VA2440-5MN32-0AA0.
