400 A MCCB with adjustable trip and high interrupting capacity
The Siemens 3VA2440-6HL32-0JA0 is a 3-pole SENTRON molded case circuit breaker rated for 400 A continuous at ambient temperatures from 40 °C through 70 °C — no derating needed across that span. The adjustable thermal-magnetic trip unit covers 600 A to 4800 A, so you set the pickup to match the downstream load without swapping the breaker frame. Interrupting capacity hits 242 kA at 240 V, 187 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 121 kA at 500 V, and 9 kA at 690 V. That 242 kA figure at 240 V covers high-fault utility feeds; the 187 kA at 415 V handles most industrial distribution panels. At 690 V the 9 kA rating still clears a fault on a 690 V drive bus, but verify it against your transformer impedance. The breaker includes a shunt trip release (STL) for remote opening via a control signal — useful for emergency-stop circuits or PLC-driven load shedding. No undervoltage release, no ground-fault module, no communication function on this variant. The basic switch version is 3VA2440-6HL32-0AA0.
Panel fit and mounting
Dimensions: 248 mm tall, 138 mm wide, 110 mm deep. That 110 mm depth is the body only — allow clearance for the shunt trip wiring and any auxiliary contact block if added later. The 138 mm width is a standard 3-pole MCCB footprint; it fits most DIN-rail or panel-mount enclosures without a sub-panel adapter. Maximum power loss is 63.5 W at full rated current. In a sealed enclosure with other heat sources, factor that into your thermal budget — forced ventilation or a larger enclosure may be needed to stay within the -25 °C to 70 °C operating range.
