400 A continuous, flat derating to 70°C
The Siemens 3VA2440-7HL32-0HA0 is a 3-pole SENTRON molded case circuit breaker rated for 400 A continuous at 40 °C, and it holds that full 400 A all the way up to 70 °C ambient — no derating curve to calculate for warm enclosures. Frame maximum is 4800 A, so this is a 400 A trip unit in a frame that can handle much higher fault currents. Short-circuit breaking capacity is the headline here: 330 kA at 240 V, 242 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 187 kA at 500 V, and 9 kA at 690 V. That 330 kA at 240 V means it handles utility-grade fault levels on the secondary side of a distribution transformer — not a typical panelboard spec. The 242 kA at 415 V covers most industrial low-voltage networks with headroom to spare.
Shunt trip and line-protection design
This variant ships with a shunt trip release (STL) for remote tripping — no undervoltage release, no ground-fault module. The base switch is the 3VA2440-7HL32-0AA0; this order code adds the shunt trip. Designed for line protection, not motor or generator protection, so the trip curve is shaped for cable and busbar coordination. Power loss at full load is 63.5 W maximum. That's the heat you need to vent in a sealed enclosure. No communication function, no auxiliary switch fitted — this is a straightforward distribution breaker with remote trip capability.
Panel fit: 138 mm wide, 248 mm tall, 110 mm deep
Mounts on a standard DIN rail or direct panel. Width of 138 mm (5.43 in) and depth of 110 mm (4.33 in) mean it fits a typical MCCB slot in a distribution board. Height of 248 mm (9.76 in) is the tallest dimension — check clearance above the busbar chamber. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage from -40 °C to 80 °C. No derating needed across the full operating range for this 400 A rating.
