400 A continuous, 330 kA interrupting — selectivity headroom for the main feeder
The Siemens 3VA2440-7HM42-0AA0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker rated for 400 A continuous at 70 °C ambient — no derating needed across the full -25 °C to 70 °C operating range. The interrupting capacity hits 330 kA at 240 V, 242 kA at 415/440 V, and still holds 187 kA at 500 V, dropping to 9 kA at 690 V. That puts it squarely on the main feeder or high-fault busway position where upstream coordination demands a stiff SCCR. The ETU330 electronic trip unit gives you adjustable long-time, short-time, instantaneous, and ground-fault protection. Ground-fault monitoring uses summation current formation on L + N, with N-conductor protection adjustable OFF, 50%, or 100%.
Current lifecycle — active production, standard sourcing channel
Lifecycle status is current — Siemens still produces this order code. No last-time-buy or phase-out notice applies. Sourced and quoted to order against an RFQ through independent distribution; availability and current pricing confirmed at quote time.
Panel fit — 4-pole, 110 mm depth, IP40 front
Four-pole construction, 110 mm deep, 184 mm wide, 248 mm tall. The 110 mm depth is the dimension that matters for enclosure depth — most 400 A frame MCCBs run 100–120 mm, so this fits standard 300 mm deep panels with gland plate clearance. IP40 on the front face means protected against tools and solid objects over 1 mm; the rest of the breaker is open-frame inside the enclosure.
