Sizing and continuous rating
The 3VA2440-7MN32-0AB0: This 3-pole SENTRON MCCB carries 400 A continuous across the full ambient range from 40 °C through 70 °C — no derate needed for a warm enclosure. That thermal stability means you size the feeder for 400 A and the breaker holds it at the top of a hot panel.
Interrupting capacity by voltage
Interrupting ratings climb with voltage: 330 kA at 240 V, 242 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 187 kA at 500 V, and 9 kA at 690 V. At 240 V the headroom is massive — enough for high-fault utility feeds. At 690 V the 9 kA figure is modest; verify it against your transformer's secondary fault current if you are on a 690 V system.
Motor protection and trip characteristics
Designed for motor protection with built-in phase failure detection — the breaker opens on loss of a phase, preventing single-phasing damage to the load. The adjustable short-time delay (4 s minimum, 17 s maximum) lets you coordinate with downstream starters or soft-starts so nuisance trips don't pull the whole feeder.
Auxiliary switching and power loss
Two HP auxiliary switches (form C) are factory-fitted — enough for a remote trip indication plus a status feedback to the PLC without adding a separate accessory. Maximum power dissipation is 63.5 W at rated load, so account for that heat in the enclosure thermal calculation, especially if the breaker is enclosed with other heat sources.
