Integrator's terse spec recap
The Siemens 3VA2440-8HN42-0AA0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 400 A continuous at 40 °C, with a 4-pole configuration and an ETU350 electronic trip unit. Breaking capacity reaches 440 kA at 240 V, 330 kA at 415 V, and 53 kA at 690 V — sufficient for high-fault utility feeds or transformer secondaries. The line protection version omits ground-fault monitoring and communication functions; a motor-drive option is available for remote switching.
What the ratings mean for fit
The 400 A rating holds across the full ambient range from 40 °C to 70 °C — no derating needed in a warm enclosure. The ETU350 trip unit offers adjustable long-time (I²t) and instantaneous (Ii) protection: Ii is fixed at 4400 A (11x In), and the neutral protection is configurable OFF, 50%, or 100% of phase current. The 800 V rated insulation voltage (Ui) supports 690 V line-to-line systems with margin.
Panel integration notes
Dimensions are 248 mm high, 184 mm wide, and 110 mm deep — fits standard MCCB mounting footprints in switchboards and distribution panels. Front-face protection is IP40, suitable for indoor enclosures. The optional motor drive (order separately) enables remote closing and tripping for automated feeder control.
