What this 500 A MCCB brings to a panel
The Siemens 3VA2450-5KP32-0AA0 is a 3-pole SENTRON molded case circuit breaker rated for 500 A continuous at 40 °C, with an electronic ETU850 trip unit configured for line protection. It holds the same 500 A rating at 45 °C and 50 °C, then derates to 477 A at 55 °C, 455 A at 60 °C, 432 A at 65 °C, and 410 A at 70 °C — so in a warm enclosure you still have solid headroom. The interrupting capacity hits 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 9 kA at 690 V. That 187 kA at 240 V is what you look at for high-fault service-entrance or large-feeder duty in North American 240 V delta systems; the 121 kA at 415 V covers the heavy end of European 400 V-class distribution.
The ETU850 is an electronic overcurrent release with adjustable N-conductor protection (OFF, 20 % to 160 %). It includes a communication function for remote monitoring and another measurement function — so this breaker can feed current and power data upstream without a separate power meter.
Panel fit and physical integration
Maximum power loss is 99 W, so factor that into the enclosure thermal budget.
