What this 500 A MCCB delivers
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2450-5KQ32-0AA0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated 500 A continuous at 40 °C, with the ETU860 electronic trip unit handling overcurrent protection. The interrupting capacity runs 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 9 kA at 690 V — so it clears high-fault currents on the secondary side of a distribution transformer without upstream coordination headaches. Thermal derating is published: flat 500 A through 50 °C, then 477 A at 55 °C, 455 A at 60 °C, 432 A at 65 °C, and 410 A at 70 °C.
It mounts into a standard switchboard or panel enclosure with the SENTRON 3VA footprint — no special adapter plate needed for most Siemens distribution panels. Max power loss is 99 W; factor that into the panel thermal budget if the breaker is enclosed with other heat sources.
Trip unit and communication
It includes a communication function — the breaker can report status and trip events over the SENTRON bus system, which saves panel wiring and gives the BMS or PLC a direct window into breaker health.
