Line protection with 500 A continuous rating
The Siemens 3VA2450-6HK32-0AA0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker rated for 500 A continuous current at 40 °C, with the same rating holding at 45 °C and 50 °C before derating begins at 55 °C. It carries a 242 kA interrupting capacity at 240 V, dropping to 187 kA at 415 V and 440 V, then to 121 kA at 500 V, and 9 kA at 690 V — a curve that tells you this breaker is built for high-fault low-voltage distribution, not for 690 V motor feeders where the available fault current stays under 9 kA. The ETU340 electronic trip unit provides adjustable long-time, short-time, and instantaneous protection, making it suitable for selective coordination in a main or tie position. Three-pole construction with an 800 V rated insulation voltage (Ui) and a maximum power loss of 99 W. The front face carries IP40 protection — sufficient for a clean indoor switchboard, but not for washdown areas. No undervoltage release, no ground-fault monitoring, no communication module fitted on this variant; it is a straight line-protection breaker with the ETU340 as the sole overcurrent intelligence.
Dimensions and panel fit
The breaker measures 248 mm high, 138 mm wide, and 110 mm deep — a 3-pole frame that fits standard Siemens 3VA2 switchboard mounting patterns. The 110 mm depth (4.33 in) is shallow enough for most 400 mm deep enclosures, but verify busbar clearance behind the breaker if the panel uses rear-connected risers. No DIN-rail mounting; this is a bolted-frame MCCB for fixed or plug-in base installation.
