What this MCCB delivers
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2450-7JP42-0AA0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for continuous 500 A at 40 °C, carrying the same rating through 50 °C before it begins to derate — 477 A at 55 °C, 455 A at 60 °C, 432 A at 65 °C, and 410 A at 70 °C. That thermal profile means it holds full capacity across most standard panel ambient conditions; only above 50 °C do you need to account for the reduction. Breaking capacity is 330 kA at 240 V, 242 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 187 kA at 500 V, and 9 kA at 690 V. The 330 kA figure at 240 V is exceptionally high — this breaker is built for high-fault locations like large transformer secondaries or industrial service entrances where available fault current is severe. The electronic trip unit is an ETU550, which provides adjustable long-time, short-time, instantaneous, and ground-fault protection curves. Communication function is built in, enabling integration with higher-level monitoring or energy management systems without an external module. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V, and the breaker is designed for line protection per its product version designation. It carries no undervoltage release, no voltage trigger, and no ground-fault monitoring version — the protection logic lives entirely in the ETU550.
Panel fit and environment
Dimensions are 248 mm high, 184 mm wide, and 110 mm deep. The 184 mm width is standard for a 4-pole frame at this rating; the 110 mm depth leaves clearance for rear-connected busbars or cable lugs. Front protection is IP40, meaning tools or fingers won't contact live parts from the front, but the breaker is not sealed against water ingress — keep it inside a rated enclosure. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C. Maximum power loss is 99 W, which should be factored into enclosure thermal calculations, especially in a multi-breaker lineup.
