What the ratings mean for your panel
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2450-7MN32-0DA0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 500 A continuous current Iu across the full 40 °C to 50 °C band — no derating needed in a typical 40 °C switchroom. Above that, the thermal curve drops it to 495 A at 55 °C, 490 A at 60 °C, 485 A at 65 °C, and 480 A at 70 °C. That 500 A frame is the one that matters for a 500 A bus or feeder; if your ambient runs 55 °C+, you size for the derated figure. Breaking capacity is the headline: 330 kA at 240 V, 242 kA at 415 V and 440 V, and 52.5 kA at 690 V. That 330 kA at 240 V is exceptional — it means this breaker can interrupt a fault at a 240 V transformer secondary or a large motor centre without needing a current-limiting upstream device. At 415 V, 242 kA still clears most industrial fault levels; at 690 V the 52.5 kA rating is typical for a 500 A frame and suits the majority of 690 V distribution. The ETU350M electronic trip unit handles the overcurrent protection — adjustable long-time, short-time, and instantaneous settings via the front dials. Phase failure detection is built in, so it will trip on a lost phase, protecting motors and other three-phase loads. There is no ground-fault monitoring on this variant; if you need that, you step to a 3VA2 with the GF option. An undervoltage release (UVR) is fitted as standard — the part includes the 3VA9608-0BB25 auxiliary trip module. That means the breaker drops out on loss of control voltage, which is common in safety circuits and emergency-stop chains. No auxiliary contacts are included; if you need status feedback to a PLC, order the contact block separately.
Sourcing and lifecycle
The basic switch assembly carries the order code 3VA2450-7MN32-0AA0. If you are replacing only the internal switch mechanism (not the entire breaker), that is the sub-assembly to order. The auxiliary trip module is 3VA9608-0BB25.
Mounting and integration
Dimensions: 248 mm high, 138 mm wide, 110 mm deep. That 138 mm width is a standard 3-pole MCCB footprint — it fits the usual panel cut-out and bus-bar spacing for a 500 A frame. The IP40 rating on the front means it is protected against tools and wires >1 mm, but not against moisture; install it inside a cabinet rated for the environment. Maximum power loss is 101.5 W — factor that into your enclosure thermal calculation if the panel is densely packed. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C. Storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C. The 15 000 latching endurance cycles is typical for a 500 A MCCB in distribution duty — not intended for frequent switching like a contactor, but fine for isolation and backup protection.
