Line protection MCCB with ETU340 trip unit
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2450-8HK32-0AA0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 500 A continuous current, designed specifically for line protection in distribution panels. Its ETU340 electronic trip unit provides adjustable overload and short-circuit protection curves, giving the site engineer selectivity headroom when coordinating downstream breakers. Breaking capacity is 440 kA at 240 V AC, 330 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 220 kA at 500 V, and 52.5 kA at 690 V — figures that cover most industrial service-entrance and feeder applications without needing a current-limiting upstream device. The 500 A rating holds from 40 °C through 50 °C; above that, derate linearly to 410 A at 70 °C.
Physical fit and panel integration
Footprint is 138 mm wide by 248 mm tall by 110 mm deep — a standard SENTRON 3VA2 frame size that mounts directly onto a DIN rail or panel-mount adapter plate. The 99 W maximum power loss at full load means forced ventilation is not mandatory in a typical 2000 mm enclosure, but adjacent devices should be spaced per Siemens' derating guidelines. No undervoltage release, no ground-fault monitoring, and no communication module are fitted on this variant — it is a straight line-protection breaker with the ETU340 trip unit as the only intelligent element. If you need remote signaling or shunt-trip capability, the 3VA2 accessory platform accepts those add-ons without changing the base breaker.
