630 A MCCB with 187 kA interrupting capacity — what that means for your panel
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2463-5HL32-0HL0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for a continuous current of 630 A, with a maximum interrupting capacity of 187 kA at 240 V AC. The interrupting capacity derates with voltage: 121 kA at 415/440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 17 kA at 690 V, so verify your system's available fault current at the point of installation against the appropriate voltage column. Rated continuous current Iu is 630 A, but that's at 40 °C ambient. The breaker derates linearly as cabinet temperature rises: 612 A at 45 °C, 593 A at 50 °C, 575 A at 55 °C, 557 A at 60 °C, 538 A at 65 °C, and 520 A at 70 °C.
Trip unit, auxiliary contacts, and shunt trip — what's on board
This breaker ships with the ETU320 electronic overcurrent release — a basic line-protection trip unit (no ground fault, no communication, no phase failure detection). There is no undervoltage release on this variant. The breaker also includes a voltage trigger and a trip indicator (mechanical flag), so a blown fuse or tripped breaker is visible on the front face without opening the panel door.
Physical fit — dimensions and mounting
Dimensions are 248 mm height × 138 mm width × 110 mm depth.
Environmental limits and mechanical endurance
Mechanical endurance (latching cycles) is rated at 15,000 operations — adequate for a main breaker or feeder breaker that sees infrequent switching, not for a motor-starting duty cycle.
