630 A MCCB with ETU320 — interrupting capacity for high-fault steel-mill feeders
The Siemens 3VA2463-5HL42-0AA0 is a SENTRON 3VA2 molded case circuit breaker rated for 630 A continuous current at 40 °C — a main feeder or large motor-circuit protector sized for high-ambient environments like a rolling-mill motor room where radiant heat from the furnace and drives pushes panel temperatures toward 50 °C and beyond. The ETU320 electronic trip unit supports LSIG protection (long-time, short-time, instantaneous, ground fault) with adjustable curves, so you coordinate selectively downstream without nuisance trips on inrush or welded-contact faults. Interrupting capacity hits 187 kA at 240 V and 121 kA at 415 V — figures that clear bolted faults on a 2 MVA transformer secondary without cascading upstream. At 690 V it still breaks 9 kA, enough for a 690 V drive line-up in a steel mill. The 4-pole construction switches the neutral, required on IT or corner-grounded delta systems common in older mill distribution.
Ambient derating and panel fit
At 50 °C the continuous rating drops to 593 A; at 60 °C it's 557 A; at 70 °C it's 520 A. If your panel sits near a furnace or a drive cabinet that radiates heat, size the feeder for the actual ambient — the 630 A nameplate is only valid at 40 °C. The 184 mm width × 248 mm height × 110 mm depth fits standard MCCB mounting footprints; the IP40 front protection keeps dust out of the trip-unit compartment in a panel with filtered ventilation.
