630 A MCCB with ETU350 — what the ratings mean for your panel
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2463-5HN32-0BC0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for 630 A continuous current (Iu) at 40 °C, with a rated insulation voltage of 800 V. It carries an ETU350 electronic trip unit — that's the overcurrent release design, giving you adjustable long-time, short-time, and instantaneous protection curves for coordination downstream. The 187 kA breaking capacity at 240 V means it can safely interrupt fault currents up to that level without cascading upstream; at 415 V and 440 V it still holds 121 kA, and at 690 V it's 17 kA — so the SCCR headroom is there for most industrial distribution panels, but verify the system voltage against your fault current. This is a line-protection version — no ground-fault monitoring, no phase-failure detection, no communication module. What it does have is an undervoltage release (UVR) built in, plus two HQ auxiliary switches (form C, rated for signal feedback to a PLC or status lamp). The supplied basic switch is order code 3VA2463-5HN32-0AA0, and the integrated auxiliary trip uses 3VA9608-0BB11 — useful if you're ordering spares or matching a replacement to an existing panel bill. Mechanical endurance is rated at 15,000 latching operations — that's the expected life for the mechanism under normal switching duty. It draws a maximum power loss of 164.5 W at full rated current, so factor that into your enclosure thermal budget, especially if the breaker is in a sealed cabinet with other heat sources.
Dimensional fit and panel integration
The breaker measures 248 mm high × 138 mm wide × 110 mm deep. That depth (110 mm) is the dimension from the mounting surface to the farthest projection — critical for enclosure depth clearance, especially if you're retrofitting into an existing panel where the backplate-to-door clearance is tight. The 138 mm width means it occupies a standard 3-pole MCCB footprint on a DIN rail or bolted bus bar.
Temperature derating — what the 630 A rating actually delivers
The 630 A rating is at 40 °C ambient. At 45 °C it's 612 A, at 50 °C it's 593 A, at 55 °C it's 575 A, at 60 °C it's 557 A, at 65 °C it's 538 A, and at 70 °C it's 520 A. If your panel ambient runs above 40 °C — say, a non-climate-controlled enclosure near a furnace line — use the 50 °C or 60 °C column, not the 40 °C number. The operating ambient range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C.
