What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3VA2463-5HN32-0JL0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for line protection in distribution panels. It carries 630 A continuous at 40 °C, with a 3-pole configuration that clears faults up to 187 kA at 240 V — that interrupting capacity means it can handle high-fault utility feeds without cascading upstream breakers. The unit includes a shunt trip (STL) for remote opening and a complement of auxiliary switches: two auxiliary switches, one trip alarm switch, and one electrical alarm switch (HQ).
Ratings that decide fit
Continuous current derates with ambient temperature: 630 A at 40 °C drops to 612 A at 45 °C, 593 A at 50 °C, and continues stepping down to 520 A at 70 °C. If your panel ambient runs above 40 °C, the 630 A nameplate is not the usable number — the derated value at your actual enclosure temperature is the one that governs load sizing. Interrupting capacity varies by line voltage: 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 9 kA at 690 V. That 9 kA at 690 V is the weak point — verify your available fault current at that voltage level before committing the BOM.
Panel fit and integration
Footprint is 138 mm wide by 248 mm high by 110 mm deep — a standard MCCB form factor for 630 A frames. The 110 mm depth (4.33 in) is the critical dimension for gland-plate clearance and back-panel wiring troughs; verify your enclosure depth allows the 110 mm plus bending radius for 630 A cable lugs. The unit ships with a shunt trip (STL) installed; if your safety circuit requires undervoltage release, note this variant does not include one — that's a separate order code.
Environmental limits and power loss
Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C. Maximum power loss is 162 W at full rated current — that heat must be managed in the enclosure thermal calculation. The trip indicator and voltage trigger are present, but there is no communication function, no ground-fault monitoring, and no undervoltage release on this specific variant.
