What it is and what it does
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2463-5HN32-0KC0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 630 A continuous current at 40 °C, designed for line protection in distribution panels. Its interrupting capacity scales with system voltage: 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 9 kA at 690 V — so the same breaker can serve high-fault 480 V panels or lower-fault 690 V industrial feeds without a frame size change. The breaker includes a shunt trip (STL) auxiliary release and two HQ auxiliary switches, making it suitable for remote tripping and status feedback in automated or safety-monitored circuits.
Thermal derating and power loss
Continuous current rating is temperature-dependent: 630 A at 40 °C, derating to 612 A at 45 °C, 593 A at 50 °C, 575 A at 55 °C, 557 A at 60 °C, 538 A at 65 °C, and 520 A at 70 °C — critical for panel builders calculating fill factor and ventilation in sealed enclosures. Maximum power loss is 162 W, which drives internal heat rise and must be factored into the enclosure's thermal budget, especially when multiple breakers are ganged.
Physical fit and environmental limits
Dimensions are 248 mm high, 138 mm wide, and 110 mm deep — a standard 3-pole MCCB footprint for panel mounting on a backplate or DIN rail adapter. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C, with storage from -40 °C to 80 °C, covering most indoor industrial environments without special enclosures.
