630 A MCCB with 187 kA interrupting capacity
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2463-5HN32-0KH0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for a continuous current Iu of 630 A. Its interrupting capacity hits 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 17 kA at 690 V — that covers most industrial service entrances and large feeder panels without needing a current-limiting upstream device. The electronic trip unit is an ETU350, which gives you adjustable long-time, short-time, instantaneous, and ground-fault protection curves. A shunt trip (STL) release is built in for remote opening, and the auxiliary contact block provides 2 auxiliary switches plus 1 trip alarm switch (HQ type) for status feedback to a PLC or annunciator panel.
Temperature derating matters at this frame size
At 40 °C ambient the breaker carries its full 630 A. As the panel warms up — and it will in a packed enclosure — the allowable current drops: 612 A at 45 °C, 593 A at 50 °C, 575 A at 55 °C, 557 A at 60 °C, 538 A at 65 °C, and 520 A at 70 °C. If your load is close to 630 A and the panel runs hot, factor in the derating or move to a larger frame. Maximum power loss is 162 W at rated current. That heat has to leave the enclosure — plan ventilation or a larger cabinet if this breaker sits alongside other high-current devices.
Panel fit and mounting
Dimensions are 110 mm deep, 138 mm wide, and 248 mm tall. It mounts on a DIN rail or can be screw-fixed to a backplate. The 138 mm width is standard for a 3-pole 630 A frame — check your gland-plate knockouts and busbar spacing before laying out the panel. Rated insulation voltage Ui is 800 V. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to +70 °C; storage from -40 °C to +80 °C.
