MCCB for high-current line protection
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2463-5JP32-0HC0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated 630 A continuous at 40 °C, with a maximum breaking capacity of 187 kA at 240 V. It's designed for line protection duty — feeding the main distribution bus or a large motor control center where fault currents can hit those levels. The 630 A frame means it handles the full load of a 400–600 kVA transformer secondary without nuisance tripping. Breaking capacity drops to 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, then 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 9 kA at 690 V — still adequate for most industrial 400 VAC switchboards, but worth checking if your system's available fault current exceeds those numbers at the point of installation. Dimensions are 110 mm deep, 138 mm wide, and 248 mm tall — a standard SENTRON 3VA2 frame footprint that fits existing panel cutouts and busbar layouts without rework.
Included accessories and communication
This variant ships with a shunt trip release (STL) for remote emergency-off or undervoltage protection schemes, plus 2 auxiliary switches HQ for status feedback to a PLC or SCADA system. Communication function is built in — no separate module needed for basic signaling. The base switch is 3VA2463-5JP32-0AA0; the -0HC0 suffix adds the shunt trip and auxiliary contacts at the factory, saving panel-builder wiring time versus field-installing them. Power loss is 162 W maximum at rated current — plan for that heat in the enclosure's thermal budget, especially if other breakers or contactors are packed tightly.
Thermal derating and ambient limits
The 630 A rating holds at 40 °C ambient. Above that, derate linearly: 600 A at 45 °C, 570 A at 50 °C, 540 A at 55 °C, 510 A at 60 °C, 480 A at 65 °C, and 450 A at 70 °C. Operating range is -25 °C to +70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to +80 °C. If your panel runs hot (pump room, foundry, solar combiner), size the breaker one frame up or verify the actual load current against the derated curve.
