It's designed for line protection duty — feeding the main distribution bus or a large motor control center where fault currents can hit those levels. The 630 A frame means it handles the full load of a 400–600 kVA transformer secondary without nuisance tripping. Breaking capacity drops to 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, then 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 9 kA at 690 V — still adequate for most industrial 400 VAC switchboards, but worth checking if your system's available fault current exceeds those numbers at the point of installation. Above that, derate linearly: 600 A at 45 °C, 570 A at 50 °C, 540 A at 55 °C, 510 A at 60 °C, 480 A at 65 °C, and 450 A at 70 °C. If your panel runs hot (pump room, foundry, solar combiner), size the breaker one frame up or verify the actual load current against the derated curve.
