630 A MCCB with ETU560 — what the ratings mean for your panel
The Siemens 3VA2463-5JQ32-0BC0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) in the 3VA2 frame, rated for line protection duty. Its headline continuous current is 630 A at 40 °C ambient, which is the figure you use for feeder sizing — above that temperature the current derates in 30 A steps down to 450 A at 70 °C (–), so a panel running warm needs the thermal curve applied before committing the BOM line. Breaking capacity is 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415/440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 17 kA at 690 V. These are the fault-current levels the breaker can safely interrupt without cascading upstream — match the available fault current at the installation point. For a 400 V distribution board, the 121 kA figure covers most high-fault scenarios. The ETU560 electronic trip unit provides adjustable overload and short-circuit protection curves, plus communication capability for integration into a power monitoring system. Two HQ auxiliary switches are built in for status feedback to a PLC or annunciator panel.
Panel integration and dimensions
The 3VA2 frame measures 110 mm deep, 138 mm wide, and 248 mm tall. That 138 mm width for a 3-pole 630 A MCCB is compact for the rating — it fits standard panel cutouts and leaves room for cable entry. Rated insulation voltage Ui is 800 V, which covers 690 V systems with margin. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C. Maximum power loss at rated current is 164.5 W — factor that into enclosure thermal calculations, especially in sealed or high-density panels.
Auxiliary functions and compliance
Undervoltage release (UVR) is fitted. Ground fault monitoring uses summation current formation on the L-conductor. Latching endurance is 15,000 operations. Siemens provides RoHS, REACH, UL, and IEC compliance documentation for the SENTRON series.
