What this 630 A MCCB carries — and where it fits
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2463-5JQ32-0DH0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for line protection, meaning it sits at the main feed or a large subfeed — not on a motor branch — protecting cables and busbars from overload and short circuit. Its 630 A continuous rating at 40 °C is the number to spec by; derate to 450 A at 70 °C if the panel runs hot, which is common in a packed enclosure with no forced airflow. The ETU560 electronic trip unit gives you adjustable long-time, short-time, and instantaneous pickup, plus ground-fault monitoring via summation current on the L-conductor — that's a single sensor wrapping all three phases, not three separate RCDs. Breaking capacity is what determines if this breaker clears a fault without welding its contacts or rupturing the case: 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 17 kA at 690 V. At 415 V — common for industrial distribution in much of the world — 121 kA covers a high-fault panel downstream of a large transformer. The undervoltage release is built in, so a loss of control voltage trips the breaker; the auxiliary contact block includes two switches plus a separate trip alarm, which lets the PLC know the breaker opened on a fault, not a manual shutdown.
Panel fit and integration
At 248 mm tall, 138 mm wide, and 110 mm deep, this breaker takes a standard SENTRON 3VA cutout. The IP40 front protection means it's fine inside a closed panel; no washdown rating, so keep it out of the splash zone. Communication function onboard means it can talk to a BMS or PLC via a compatible module — useful for remote trip indication and load monitoring without running separate wires for every auxiliary contact.
