What this MCCB is and what it does
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2463-5JQ32-0KL0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for line protection — the main feed in a distribution panel or a large motor branch circuit. It carries 630 A continuously at 40 °C, with a thermal derating curve that drops to 450 A at 70 °C, so the real-world ampacity depends on your enclosure ambient. The interrupting ratings are serious: 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415/440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 9 kA at 690 V — that covers most industrial service entrances and sub-distribution boards without needing a current-limiting fuse upstream.
Trip unit and settings
The electronic trip unit is adjustable between 945 A and 5 670 A (the Ii range), with a full-scale rating of 630 A and an initial value of 126 A. That means you can set the short-circuit pickup to coordinate with downstream breakers — useful for selectivity studies. A trip indicator and voltage trigger are built in; undervoltage release is not included on this variant. The auxiliary switch complement is 2 auxiliary switches + 1 trip alarm switch + 1 electrical alarm switch HQ, and a shunt trip (STL) is fitted for remote opening.
Physical fit and panel integration
The breaker measures 248 mm high, 138 mm wide, and 110 mm deep — a standard SENTRON 3VA2 footprint. It mounts on a DIN rail or directly to a backplate via the screw terminals. The 110 mm depth (4.33 in) is shallow enough for most 600 mm deep enclosures; verify the door clearance if you're retrofitting into a panel that was originally built around a deeper frame. Power loss is 162 W maximum at rated load, so factor that into your thermal budget.
Environmental and compliance
Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C. The breaker includes a communication function via a plug-in module.
